In response to the shortage of rural labor, maize production has achieved full mechanization. Breeders now prioritize traits including high yield, stress resistance, and suitability for mechanized harvesting. To develop a maize variety with these comprehensive traits and meet the demands of fully mechanized maize production, a new hybrid variety, "Yudan 896," was bred in 2012. This variety was created using inbred line Y4001 as the female parent and Y521 as the male parent through hybrid combination testing. In December 2021, "Yudan 896" received national approval (National Maize Seed Approval No. 20210498). "Yudan 896" participated in the Huang-Huai-Hai Summer Maize Joint Regional Tests from 2018 to 2019, achieving an average yield of 10,191 kg/hm2 (kilograms per hectare) over two years—3.8% higher than the control. In 2020, it participated in the Huang-Huai-Hai Summer Maize Production Test, where it demonstrated an average yield of 9 748.5 kg/hm2, 3.9% higher than the control. This variety exhibits strong disease resistance, excellent lodging resistance, rapid dehydration, and superior suitability for mechanized harvesting. It maintains stable high yields and is well-suited for cultivation in Shaanxi Province and the Huang-Huai-Hai summer maize regions. |
